My Jaws inspired poster for ¡Póntelo!, another Autumn Society show down in Mexico City's Guru Gallery in part with MTv Latin America's "Agentes de Cambio MTV" on Wednesday, March 28th.

Below you can see my extremely alternative piece, which I don' think it would of flown well. But I made it regardless.

So I haven't been dead for the first two months. A lot is changing. Big things.

I quit my job recently and I'm moving to Burbank California at the end of the month, and trying to peruse a job in the animation industry through some connections. Crazy I know, but at 25, I'd rather try now and fail, then have regrets for never trying at all.

But enough about that, I was recently invited to partake in a charity show for the lovely ladies at Angel City Derby Girls in Los Angeles.
The theme for the show this year was "Turn of the Century 1900's Traveling Carnival." I went with the "there are crazy things in this world we don't know of yet like undiscovered savage jungle tribes and even more horrific King Kong type creatures out there" theme.

And with it, I decided to give the piece some dimension. Trying new things out.

Sonic Generation

I got invited recently to take part in a Sonic the Hedgehog themed art show at Brave New Worlds for December's First Friday.


Though if you know me, I didn't like the Sonic games past Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (they got kinda...wierd. I mean, just look at the ones that came out in the last 5 years). Though the old Ren & Stimpy-esque cartoon show held a soft spot for me for years.

Iconolastic Dead

Autumn Society is having yet another international show, after the success we had over in France at LA FLAQ GALLERY thanks in part with Geek-Art.

Guru Gallery down in Mexico City has kinda taken us in, with a Día de los Muertos show, The Iconolastic Dead. The theme being we had to do a piece based on a living/dead person who you looked up to.

Honestly, I don't have a lot of people I look up to. Maybe George Carlin, but thats really it. Lemmy on the other hand though, has had a successful music career about 40 plus years going, Motorhead has been pretty consistent in their sound since the 70's, has influenced bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, and more, and to quote many people, Can do whatever the hell he wants; drink a bottle a jack a day, sleep with thousands of women, write/compose song lyrics in about 15 minutes, and appear in your band's music video for the hell of it. The man is even as humble enough to say that Motorhead isn't a metal band.

Anyways, enjoy what I was able to crank out in little less than a week's time.

8-Bit Champions

The Autumn Society is having its first show over in Paris, France. Its first international show really, all in part thanks to Geek-Art. I was chosen to take part, and chose to illustrate the video game series, Adventure Island, that I had a lot of fun playing on my Nintendo during my youth.


"Death from Above"

For this piece, I decided to document it, since someone asked me recently to see a process post.



The first part, is to draw up ideas, in thumbnail size. I usually try to do at least 20 these days before moving on.


Normally around this time, I do research, which just consists of playing the game again, and getting screen captures. Same thing with videos of the SNES ones, because I never did play those (except the series took a turn for the weird on that console). Oh, and there was also an anime too. Go figure!


After choosing a thumbnail that I think has the best potential/composition/not boring, I do a very loose sketch, just to lay out key areas. This is bound to change over time.


The image then gets blown up, and then tightened up with tracing paper drawings, and then transferred to watercolor paper.


The time before inking is a tense time. Thank god for Mister Pabst.


And done.


After inking, a colored tonal wash is applied and then major areas get blocked in with washes.


More areas get blocked in, and I start adding details, value, and what have you...


....until I have this. Like I mentioned earlier, some elements get added in before the end.


Framed and ready to go!
