My Jaws inspired poster for ¡Póntelo!, another Autumn Society show down in Mexico City's Guru Gallery in part with MTv Latin America's "Agentes de Cambio MTV" on Wednesday, March 28th.

Below you can see my extremely alternative piece, which I don' think it would of flown well. But I made it regardless.

Autumn Society is having yet another international show, after the success we had over in France at LA FLAQ GALLERY thanks in part with Geek-Art.

Guru Gallery down in Mexico City has kinda taken us in, with a Día de los Muertos show, The Iconolastic Dead. The theme being we had to do a piece based on a living/dead person who you looked up to.

Honestly, I don't have a lot of people I look up to. Maybe George Carlin, but thats really it. Lemmy on the other hand though, has had a successful music career about 40 plus years going, Motorhead has been pretty consistent in their sound since the 70's, has influenced bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, and more, and to quote many people, Can do whatever the hell he wants; drink a bottle a jack a day, sleep with thousands of women, write/compose song lyrics in about 15 minutes, and appear in your band's music video for the hell of it. The man is even as humble enough to say that Motorhead isn't a metal band.

Anyways, enjoy what I was able to crank out in little less than a week's time.

8-Bit Champions

The Autumn Society is having its first show over in Paris, France. Its first international show really, all in part thanks to Geek-Art. I was chosen to take part, and chose to illustrate the video game series, Adventure Island, that I had a lot of fun playing on my Nintendo during my youth.


"Death from Above"

For this piece, I decided to document it, since someone asked me recently to see a process post.



The first part, is to draw up ideas, in thumbnail size. I usually try to do at least 20 these days before moving on.


Normally around this time, I do research, which just consists of playing the game again, and getting screen captures. Same thing with videos of the SNES ones, because I never did play those (except the series took a turn for the weird on that console). Oh, and there was also an anime too. Go figure!


After choosing a thumbnail that I think has the best potential/composition/not boring, I do a very loose sketch, just to lay out key areas. This is bound to change over time.


The image then gets blown up, and then tightened up with tracing paper drawings, and then transferred to watercolor paper.


The time before inking is a tense time. Thank god for Mister Pabst.


And done.


After inking, a colored tonal wash is applied and then major areas get blocked in with washes.


More areas get blocked in, and I start adding details, value, and what have you...


....until I have this. Like I mentioned earlier, some elements get added in before the end.


Framed and ready to go!

I recently had the privilege to do another show for the Autumn Society this month for Jinxed/Toothless Cat Gallery in Philly this first Friday for July.

I tried to do something a bit different, and send in a piece done solely in Illustrator.
Safe to say, I was surprised to get a lot of positive feedback on this.

The 3G Show

I present to you, the latest three pieces I slaved on for the past week and half: My submissions for The Autumn Society's 3G Show at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles (which I will be attending!).


Slimer as "The Demon" Gene Simmons.

Originally, the first idea I had was to do Staypuff, Sloth, Slimer, and Gizmo as kiss band memebers, but quickly scrapped that idea since it just felt a bit, dull, or didn't fit. With that huge mouth and tongue, I can Slimer as Simmons, but none of the others seemed to fit (for me at least) after sketching them out.

So I just decided to just do my own renditions of favorite childhood moments from the other two (Ghostbusters had too man, I couldn't just chose one part).


"In order to survive a war, you gotta become war."

I watched the hell out of Gremlins 2 when I was 5 years old over in Italy, and seeing him as John Rambo has always stuck out in my mind. Back then, that scene where he takes down the Spider Gremlin with flaming white out always got me pumped.


This one is more heart warming for me. Chunk offering Sloth to come live with him, and his eyes light up and his ears twitch with glee.

The show's opening reception is on September 3rd from 7pm to 10pm. If you're in the area, GO!

80's Toy Show Preview

I doubt a lot of people remember what a Roller Racer is. Hell, everyone that does know is like 30+ in age.
Roller Racers in the 80's where made by WHAMMO! and you basically move yourself by moving the handles back n forth, and it propels you forward. I remember in Elementry school gym class when I lived in Rome, we had games involving these.

So to challenge myself, I chose to do an obscure toy, rather then my original idea of He-Man or Transformer figures. To make it interesting, I decided to try the Ed Roth style again. I did something with it during my Sophomore year of College, but I wasn't too happy about it. Below is the resulting preview.

A decade worth a bad movies made hilarious. Even though it started in 1989, it predominately had a good run from 1990 to 1999.

I made these this evening, as a break from doing Carnivale de Robotique work, and as a submission to the Autumn Society's 90's Show this June. The coldpress watercolor paper I still can't figure out, but I like the little bit of uncertainty it adds when it bleeds a tiny bit.

Its finally done! Not much else to say except that I was bit puzzled as to why some of my colors ending up bleeding a bit in a few areas, but sometimes I like a bit of chaos in my pieces.

I'm currently involved with an Adventure Time project by the Autumn Society to coincide with the premier of Cartoon Networks's Adventure Time, which I've been a fan of since I saw the pilot almost three years ago. I feel as if I'm bit behind, since I changed my first idea, but I think this version is a lot better then what I was originally going to go with. Hopefully this will be done by the end of the week.
