Maxwell C. Walker

For my third assignment for my Senior Illustration class, I chose to make a biographical video game manual. The western theme came about when I was trying to narrow down my ideas: The fantasy aspect of RPGs has been done to death and back, and kid theme RPGs like Earthbound seem to be popping up all over now. The one thing that got me thinking, was that besides in the table top RPG realm, there's hardly any Western theme ones (Well, if you count the Wild Arms series, but it took them them until the last half of the 2nd game to get the western part right. But even then, they ended up making it more futuristic in the 4th, and the 5th one has too many JRPG and Fantasy elements, and little Western elements, as if the producers forgot what the hell they're doing now. Consistency people!) Okay, enough ranting, heres what I came up with.

A young boy about 13 years in age, Max has always had aspirations of becoming a great Vagabond like his father. Self-trained with revolvers by watching his dad, and despite his small stature, he can hold his own, but can be timid at times. Since Max is small and agile, he can easily dodge attacks from larger enemies, and take down aerial monsters with great accuracy. After the disappearance of his father a few years prior, he sets off into the desert wasteland with his sister in hopes he can find any clues as to what happened to him.

Annabelle Walker

Maxwell's dear older sister. After the death of their mother, and disappearance of their father, Annabelle felt it was her duty to take over as Maxwell's caretaker. For 10 years of her life, Anna lived in a Monastery studying magic, which is a lost art in the desert wastelands, and through her studies and training, has become a valuable asset for the team, taking down the strongest of monsters with ease. Anna uses a set of Derringers and a large Grimoire left behind by her mother, and is not shy to use them on men who dare to hit on her.

I'm also not too great with drawing females. Its a bane of mine I've always experienced. Though some girls I know can't draw guys right. Go figure.

Free Range Cactus

A common site in the desert lands of the world, these little cactus creatures roam the land in search of water. Though docile in appearance and nature, they will attack if provoked, and can fire their needles much like a gunslinger would with a gun. They also use their cute appearance to their advantage, stealing from travelers who aren't sure of their surroundings. Some have also taken to hopping around in ceramic pots; where they get them, no one knows. Much like are canine and feline friends, people have come to domesticate these little guys, so its not a rare site to see one in someone's home.

Great Sand Turtle

A strain of giant turtles that have learned to evolve and thrive in the desert lands. Hardy and tough, these creatures can withstand even the most harshest of sandstorms and dry spells. Many a traveller have spun tales of traveling herds of these beasts as 'roaming deserts', which is such a rare site to be seen. Though a tad slow in their movements, they can be powerhouses in combat, with their jaws that can snap large tree trunks with ease, and tough to fell with their humungous shells.

A Moment of Clarity

Cross posting from Jimmy's one-a-day comic blog Ink Answer, a one panel comic that come about accidently during my Etching class today. The kind of thought has always crossed your mind at some point, but how many where in such a critical or messed up situation?
